Ultrasound

United Medical Group uses ultrasound as a painless, non-invasive way to diagnose a variety of diseases and conditions without the use of radiation, making this a widely used procedure during pregnancy.

Sometimes called sonography, ultrasounds bounce high-frequency sound waves off the body to produce a real-time picture of the internal structures including organ formation, movement and blood flow.

Ultrasound is used for many reasons, including to:

  • View the uterus and ovaries during pregnancy and monitor the developing baby’s health
  • Diagnose gallbladder disease
  • Evaluate blood flow
  • Guide a needle for biopsy or tumor treatment
  • Examine a breast lump
  • Check the thyroid gland
  • Find genital and prostate problems
  • Assess joint inflammation (synovitis)
  • Evaluate metabolic bone disease

MRI

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a medical imaging technique that uses a magnetic field and computer-generated radio waves to create detailed images of the organs and tissues in your body.

Most MRI machines are large, tube-shaped magnets. When you lie inside an MRI machine, the magnetic field temporarily realigns water molecules in your body. Radio waves cause these aligned atoms to produce faint signals, which are used to create cross-sectional MRI images — like slices in a loaf of bread.

The MRI machine can also produce 3D images that can be viewed from different angles

Black Lung X-Ray and Screenings

We offer X-Ray and screening services for anyone that might have black lung.

United Medical Care is one of the testing sites for NIOSH’s Mobile Occupational Safety and Health Unit. All coal miners are encouraged to stop by the mobile and participate in this free health exam.

Typically, testing takes about 30 minutes and includes questionnaires, a chest radiograph, a spirometry (breathing) test and blood pressure screening.
